Fishing Industry Leadership & Representation Online Training Available

A new online training program has been released to assist fishers to learn how to better engage with government departments and industry stakeholders in order to effectively contribute toward fisheries management decision-making.

Through a project funded by the Australian Government and a collaboration between the Professional Fishers Association, Seafood Industry Victoria, Wildcaught SA and the Australian Maritime & Fisheries Academy a comprehensive online learning tool has been developed.

The Fishing Industry Leadership and Representation Training is a free, self-paced, online course made by fishers to help fishers, and it is available to all members of the Australian commercial seafood industry.

The training focuses on eight key areas, and is designed to benefit industry participants of all ages and roles:

  • Effective communication
  • Meeting processes
  • Technology knowledge
  • Decision making
  • Identifying opportunities for involvement
  • Community engagement and social license to operate
  • Business and Community stakeholder values
  • Finding common ground
