DECK Program 2025

DECK 2025: Strengthening Leadership and Collaboration in the Western Rock Lobster Industry

The 2025 DECK Program Conference brought together industry leaders, emerging fishers and subject-matter experts for two days of insight, collaboration and professional development at the Fremantle Sailing Club on Wednesday 5th and Thursday 6th November 2025. Designed to support leadership growth and strengthen industry capability, the event delivered a comprehensive program focused on knowledge-sharing, practical learning and connection.

This year’s forum continued to highlight DECK’s role as a pathway for fishers seeking to expand their leadership opportunities — including progression into bursary opportunities, participation on the Fishing Operations Committee, and, ultimately, consideration for WRL Board-level roles. The program reinforced the value of investing in emerging leaders and ensuring a strong, informed future for the Western Rock Lobster industry.

The conference opened with a welcome lunch before moving into a series of presentations and discussions led by experienced speakers from across the sector. Attendees took part in interactive sessions, explored key industry challenges, and shared insights grounded in practical experience. The social dinner at Bathers Beach House, following the conclusion of Day 1, provided an informal setting for continued networking and conversation.

Day 2 commenced with breakfast and a further round of presentations, concluding with a light lunch and the event’s prize draws — including the feature prize of two new iPads preloaded with the WRL FishOps App. Across both days, participants reported that the program delivered strong value, with many highlighting the quality of the sessions, the relevance of the content, and the opportunity to build new professional connections.
