Future-Focused: WRL Welcomes Its First Secondary School Work Experience Student

Western Rock Lobster (WRL) was proud to host its very first Secondary School work experience student, welcoming Andrew Blair from Kennedy Baptist College for a week-long placement.

As part of the school’s Year 10 Work Experience Program, students undertake short-term voluntary placements designed to broaden their understanding of the working world and explore potential career pathways.

Andrew, who is currently enrolled in the extension Science stream at Kennedy BC, has shown a strong interest in environmental science and sustainability – making his time with WRL a fitting match.

Over the course of the week, Andrew was immersed in a range of industry experiences. From touring a lobster processing facility and spending time with marine scientists at DPIRD, to joining a commercial fishing crew at dawn to witness first-hand the operations at sea, his placement offered a unique and comprehensive look into the Western Rock Lobster industry.

It’s fair to say Andrew experienced more than just a workplace – he got a hands-on introduction to a sector deeply rooted in innovation, science, and sustainable fishing practices.
