On 9 September 2022, the Western Rock Lobster Council Inc (WRL) closed nominations for the election of Directors in both the Southern and Northern Zones. WRL can now announce that there is no election required for the Northern Zone as there were only two nominations received for the two vacant positions, that being Bruce Cockman and Matt Fong, who have been re-elected as Directors.
An election is required for the Southern Zone as there have been five nominations received for the three vacant positions. The candidates for the Southern Zone, in order of nominations received, are as follows:
- John Sloan;
- Mathew Thompson;
- Fedele Camarda;
- Corry Amato; and
- Peter Stanich.
The WRL Rules of Association allow for election by ballot to be conducted prior to the AGM with the election results to be effective from the AGM. Therefore, the election of the Southern Zone directors will be conducted using a postal ballot. Today, the 14th of September 2022, the ballot papers were sent by mail to Southern Zone MFL holders.
Please note that according to rules 9.2(a)(2) and (3) of the WRL Rules of Association:
- only Ordinary Members may vote on the election of Directors and an Ordinary Member may vote to elect a Director only in relation to the Zone or Zones in which the Ordinary Member holds Units of usual entitlement.
- an Ordinary Member who holds Units of usual entitlement on one MFL for more than one Zone may only vote for a Zone Representative for the Zone in which the Member holds the most Units of usual entitlement.
The closing time/date for the election will be 4.00 p.m. Monday, 10 October 2022. Ballot papers received by WRL after this time shall be invalid.
The election will be decided on the number of votes received by the close of the voting. The declaration of the new Directors will be made at the 2022 AGM to be held on 13 October 2022 and will also be posted on the WRL website as soon as possible after the conclusion of the AGM.
Members are reminded that the 2022 WRL AGM will be held at 10.00 a.m. on Thursday, 13 October 2022 at the Geraldton Multipurpose Centre, 31 Foreshore Drive, Geraldton WA 6530.
