From Sea to Story: Western Rock Lobster Annual Photo Competition
Submit your best western rock lobster photos to the WRL annual photo contest and your image could feature in our 2027 photo calendar!
Open to all Western Australian residents, we are on the lookout for photos that capture the beauty of our fishery in a unique, spectacular or visually appealing manner.
Photographs may include lobsters, boats, landscapes and/or people, etc. We welcome images that capture the fishing operation; fishers of all ages; culture (community-based work, community events); lobsters’ recipes and dishes, and anything that tells the story of our industry!
Prizes
The 12 winning photos will be showcased in our 2027 WRL photo calendar. Each individual winner will also receive a Western Rock Lobster merch pack, including one of our popular Back of Boat t-shirts and 2027 calendar!

How to Enter & Terms and Conditions
The competition is open to all Western Australian residents. Each participant can enter up to five images.
Competition OPENS on Thursday 1st October 2026 and will close 5pm, Monday 9 November 2026. Winners will be announced on Sunday 15th of November 2025.
By entering the competition, you are stating that you have secured the necessary permissions for all photo content (including people) and you agree to the use of your photograph/s for printing, advertising, website, social media and promotional purposes, including but not limited to the WRL calendar, WRL newsletter and website, without compensation.
All valid entries received during the competition period will be judged on their merit. Entries will be judged on originality, composition, overall impact, artistic merit, and relevance to the WRL aims and mission to celebrate our fishery and the beauty of life at sea, to inspire and to build an advocate community for the western rock lobster industry.
Entries will be shortlisted by the WRL Executive team and 12 winning photographs will be selected by WRL Board. No more than 3 photos can be selected as winning photos from the same photographer.

Image Requirements
- High resolution. The images need to be at least 300dpi and minimum 2MB file size.
- File formats accepted are JPG and PNG only.
- Landscape/Horizontal photos are preferred rather than portrait/vertical.
- It is recommended that images are taken on a camera instead of a smartphone if possible. If you’re using a phone be sure to set it to the highest resolution available.
- You must have taken the image yourself and have ownership of the rights.
- If there are any identifiable individuals within the photograph, permissions need to be given.
