Capture the Essence of Our Fishery: WRL Annual Photo Competition
Submit your best western rock lobster photos to the WRL annual photo contest and your image could feature in our 2025 photo calendar!
Open to all Western Australian residents, we are on the lookout for photos that capture the beauty of our fishery in a unique, spectacular or visually appealing manner.
Photographs may include lobsters, boats, landscapes and/or people, etc. We welcome images that capture the fishing operation; fishers of all ages; culture (community-based work, community events); lobsters’ recipes and dishes, and anything that tells the story of our industry!
Prizes
The 12 winning photos will be showcased in our 2025 WRL photo calendar. Each winner will also receive one of our popular Back of Boat t-shirts and a free calendar!
How to Enter
Open to all Western Australian residents. Each participant can enter up to five images.
Competition open on Tuesday 1st October 2024 and will close 5pm, Sunday 27th October 2024.
To enter, send us your photo/s via email at info@westernrocklobster.org and wait for confirmation of their eligibility.
If your file is too large for email, use a transfer service such as WeTransfer.
Entrants will be asked to provide the following information in the contest entry process:
- Participant contact details: Full name, email and mobile.
- Title of the photo.
- Caption: Describe what we see, where it was taken and the story behind the photograph.
- Location where the photo was taken.
Image Requirements
- High resolution. The images need to be at least 300dpi and minimum 2MB file size.
- File formats accepted are JPG and PNG only.
- Landscape/Horizontal photos are preferred rather than portrait/vertical.
- It is recommended that images are taken on a camera instead of a smartphone if possible. If you’re using a phone be sure to set it to the highest resolution available.
- You must have taken the image yourself and have ownership of the rights.
- If there are any identifiable individuals within the photograph, permissions need to be given.
Judging And Winner Announcement
All valid entries received during the competition period will be judged on their merit. Entries will be judged on originality, composition, overall impact, artistic merit, and relevance to the WRL aims and mission to celebrate our fishery and the beauty of life at sea, to inspire and to build an advocate community for the western rock lobster industry.
Entries will be shortlisted by the WRL Executive team and 12 winning photographs will be selected by WRL Board.
Winners will be announced on Sunday 10th of November 2024.
By entering the competition, you are stating that you have secured the necessary permissions for all photo content (including people) and you agree to the use of your photograph/s for printing, advertising, website, social media and promotional purposes, including but not limited to the WRL calendar, WRL newsletter and website, without compensation.
