You may have noticed cable laying vessel the Peter Faber is in the Fremantle area.
WRL have been advised by Optic Marine (for SUBCO South Pty Ltd) that the Peter Faber is currently completing laying of a submarine communications cable as part of the installation of fully armoured subsea transcontinental hypercable connecting Sydney, Melbourne (Torquay), Adelaide and Perth and going on from Perth to connect to Singapore and Oman. The Perth part of the cabling has two landings, one in City Beach and one at Garden Island.

The Pater Faber will be in Fishery waters installing cable segments SEG2-A, SEG2.1 and SEG2-B (see map above) between now and March 2026. Fishers are requested to observe a 250 m or 1x Water Depth (whichever is greater) exclusion zone around the vessel to allow safe cable laying operations and reduce risk of loss or damage to fishing gear. The vessels will transit between segments at around 11kn.
